What is it?
It’s a nationwide early literacy challenge. The goal is to read 1,000 books (you can repeat books) before your child starts kindergarten.
If you read just 1 book a night, you will have read about 365 books in a year. That is 730 books in two years and 1,095 books in three years. Most children start kindergarten at around 5 years of age, so you have more time than you think!
How do I participate?
Come to the Children’s Department to get a reading log and a free book to start your reading journey.
Color a duck for each book you read. When the log is done, return it to get a prize from the treasure box. Then you can pick up your next log and keep going.
When your child hits the 1,000 books goal they get a little trophy, a certificate, and a photo to commemorate the occasion. Happy reading!
